Birdie and Andy Veach striking a 'Bonnie and Clyde' pose. It was during this period that the infamous Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were committing bank robberies on a near-weekly basis in East Texas. My grandfather told me that once in Logansport a young man approached him and asked if there was a men's public restroom nearby. Of course there wasn't, but there was a secluded spot where my grandfather accompanied him. They shared a few minutes conversation along the way and according to my grandfather, the man introduced himself as Clyde Barrow. I don't know if this story was true, or if the man was spoofing my grandfather. However at the time, Bonnie and Clyde were viewed by most as contemporary Robin Hoods...stealing from the rich. In the midst of the Great Depression, I suppose stealing from the wealthy didn't seem so sinful to most people who were struggling for their next meal. I've often wondered about the authenticity of this story.
