Lillie Foshee and Annie Irene Foshee Galbreath are pictured in the same location and probably on the same day as the previous snapshot. Big Mamma was the matriarch, the mother of Dove, Alonzo, Annie, Marilyn, and Birdie. Her husband was killed in a sawmill acident when she was pregnant with Birdie, my grandmother. Aunt Dovie told me that her father did not die immediately after the accident. She peeked through an opening in the building where he was being treated and saw him in agony before he died.

The Foshee women never seemed to enjoy having their portraits done and their pose displays their impatience with the photographer. The date of the photo is 1943.
